The Crown's Claire Foy confirmed to be new Lisbeth Salander in The Girl In The Spider's Web
The Crown's Claire Foy has been confirmed to play Lisbeth Salander in The Girl In The Spider's Web, the sequel to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, which will arrive in 2018, but without any of the original stars.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, which was adapted from the first novel in Stieg Larsson's bestselling trilogy, was released in 2011 and starred Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara and Robin Wright. It was a modest box office hit, but despite that, no sequel was confirmed.
Now the series is being rebooted with Foy in the lead role and Fede Alvarez, direct of Don't Breathe, in the director's chair. He will work from a script from Peaky Blinders' creator Steven Knight.
Speaking about the casting, Alvarez said: "I couldn’t be more thrilled about Claire taking the reins of the iconic Lisbeth Salander. Claire is an incredible, rare talent who will inject a new and exciting life into Lisbeth. I can’t wait to bring this new story to a worldwide audience, with Claire Foy at its centre."
The Girl In The Spider's Web isn't actually part of the author's original trilogy and was written by David Lagercrantz after the author's death with continuity to both the crime writer’s style and his characters in mind.
The new reboot will be released into cinemas on October 5th in 2018.
