The Expendables 3: Five Reasons You’ll Love It…
The third film in the Expendables franchise has arrived and once again you are in for some high-octane action with an all-star cast. The Expendables come face to face with ruthless arms dealer who also happens to be the rogue co-founder of group, Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), and he is determined to destroy the team.
The latest instalment features Expendables veterans Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Arnold Schwarzeneggar & Jet Li.
They are joined by newcomers Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Harrison Ford, Kelsey Grammer, Kellan Lutz, Ronda Roussey, Glen Powell, Victor Ortiz and Robert Davi. Both young and old must battle together to save their friends.
We caught an early screening and here are five reasons we think you’ll love it…
The cast is bigger and better
As we’ve mentioned above the cast is massive and if we think in terms of tough-guy leading men through the years the film contains Rambo, Terminator, Transporter, Hercules, Mad Max, Blade, Indiana Jones and Zorro…not bad eh?!
Ronda Rousey is a total badass
Move over Michelle Rodriguez… there is a new tough girl on the scene. Ronda Roussey, former 2008 Beijing Olympics Judo bronze medallist and UFC Womens Bantamweight Champion in February last year, we think it’s safe to say Ronda knows how to look after herself. But we will be able to tell for sure who wins the tough girl crown as both actresses have already been scheduled to appear in Fast and Furious 7…the ultimate girl fight might be on the horizon!
All the actors are obviously having a great time
The sense of fun seems really genuine and it keeps the movie from being too serious. One of the best lines has to be when Randy Couture’s character Toll Road asks Wesley Snipes’ character Doc why he was in prison and he sarcastically replies “tax evasion”. Seeing as Wesley Snipes was sentenced to 3 years in prison for tax evasion serving from 2010-2013 he obviously has a sense of humour about the whole thing...
There are explosions galore
Like with the previous Expendables, number 3 lives up to the bash-‘em-up tough guy franchise with some truly spectacular explosions and action scenes, some them are utterly ridiculous and would never be possible in real life but that’s the fun in these films - machine guns aren’t enough, you need tanks, missiles and C4 to really light things up!
They might be getting on a bit, but they've still got it
Sure a lot of the cast are around 60 and plus but they still commit to the tough fight scenes. Including a great bust up between Stallone and Gibson as a building is about to explode. But the humour about their age is never lost where Ford’s character aptly advices “Don’t’ worry too much or you’ll have a stroke”.
The Expendables 3 will be in cinemas from Thursday August 14
