The Guest's Adam Wingard to direct new telling of manga classic Death Note
Adam Wingard, director of The Guest and You're Next, is to direct a Hollywood adaptation of iconic manga classic Death Note.
A US adaptation of the Japanese series has been in the works for a number of years. Iron Man 3's Shane Black was attached to direct at one time, but Wingard is now in the hot seat, working to a script from Fantastic Four writer Jeremy Slater. There are no stars attached to the project at this time, reports the Hollywood Reporter.
Death Note followed Light Yagami, a student who discovers a mysterious notebook that grants its user the ability to kill anyone whose name and face they know by writing their name in the book. Once in possession of the book, Light sets out to rid the world who anyone he deems to be evil.
A Japanese adaptation of the series and a sequel have already been produced, they were released in 2006 and 2008 respectively.
Wingard is next scheduled to direct horror thriller The Woods, which he will shoot this summer.
