"I was completely astounded by what has been achieved, it's hard to get your head around..." hmv.com talks The Lion King with Chiwetel Ejiofor
As the man who directed the 2015 remake of The Jungle Book, one of the first of Disney's growing list of animated classic to be revived for the big screen in recent years, Jon Favreau knows a thing or two about bringing new life to Disney's catalogue of family favourites. Thanks in no small part to The Jungle Book's success, the news that Favreau would be directing a new remake of Disney's much-loved 1994 animated musical The Lion King was greeted with more than a little excitement, and this week Favreau's all-new version of the film finally makes its debut in cinemas.
The Lion King opens in cinemas this Friday (July 19th) and sees Favreau taking advantage of groundbreaking new technology to create a stunning photorealistic adventure quite unlike anything we've seen before.
As you might expect from a Disney extravaganza, Favreau's film features a stellar cast list that includes Donald Glover, James Earl Jones, John Oliver, Seth Rogan, Keegan Michael-Key, Beyoncé, Chance the Rapper and Chiwetel Ejiofor, who provies his voice to one of the film's key roles - namely Simba's nefarious uncle, Scar.
With the film about to arrive on UK cinema screens we sat down with Chiwetel to talk about his role in Favreau's movie and bringing The Lion King back to the big screen.
