"I wanted a villain who would seduce you..." - hmv.com talks to Desiree Akhavan & Chloë Grace Moretz
Emily M. Danforth's 2012 debut novel The Miseducation of Cameron Post told the story of a Montana teenager who is sent to a "conversion therapy" camp when her ultra-conservative aunt and grandmother discover she is in a romantic relationship with a female friend. Inspired by the real-life story of teenager Zach Stark, Danforth's novel has now been adapted for the big screen by director Desiree Akhavan and screenwriter Cecilia Frugiuele.
Akhavan's film stars Chloë Grace Moretz in the role of Cameron, the young girl who is sent to a camp named God's Promise in an attempt to 'cure' her homosexuality. Alongside her is a cast that includes Jennifer Ehle, John Gallagher Jr, Sasha Lane and Forrest Goodluck, and with the film arriving in cinemas this Friday (September 7th), we caught up with Desiree and Chloë for a chat.
