The Shallows' Jaume Collet-Serra now frontrunner to direct Suicide Squad 2
Jaume Collet-Serra, director of The Shallows and Non-Stop, is now the frontrunner to direct the sequel to Suicide Squad.
According to Deadline, Warner Brothers considered a number of directors to take charge of the movie, including Mel Gibson, but are now focusing their efforts on securing Collet-Serra.
The director is currently readying his new movie The Commuter, which sees him reunite with Liam Neeson and is due out in 2018.
Before any sequel to Suicide Squad, star Margot Robbie is to reunite with original director David Ayer for Gotham City Sirens, a new movie that will unite DC's most iconic female villains. It will see Robbie's Harley Quinn will team up with the likes of Catwoman and Poison Ivy to form a brand new team.
The script for the movie has been written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who has written the script for the Tomb Raider reboot and the forthcoming third instalment of Sherlock Holmes.
As well as this new project Warner Brothers have also revealed that they are developing a spin-off for Deadshot, Will Smith's character in Suicide Squad.
Suicide Squad was released late last year on DVD and is available to purchase now by clicking on the buy button on the right-hand side of the page.
