The Spy Who Dumped Me - Five Reasons You’ll Love It

We’ve been gifted with a few excellent spy spoofs in recent years. From the tongue-in-cheek Kingsman to Paul Feig’s hilarious Spy, the tropes of James Bond, John Le Carre and Tom Clancy have been spun deliciously. Now, another excellent entry comes in the shape of The Spy Who Dumped Me.

In this new comedy, we follow Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon as best friends Audrey and Morgan, who somehow get involved in an undercover mission after Audrey’s unassuming ex-boyfriend Drew shows up at their apartment with a team of deadly assassins on his trail...

Starring alongside Kunis and McKinnon are Gillian Anderson, Sam Heughan and Justin Theroux, with Susanna Fogel, director of Life Partners, taking charge of this one.

The film arrives in UK cinemas on August 22nd and will be available to pre-order from hmv’s online store on the same day, but before all that, we caught an early screening and have rounded up five reasons you’ll love it…

Kunis and McKinnon have excellent chemistry…

Ever since she stole the show in Ghostbusters, McKinnon's zany persona and shining charisma have seen her catapulted to one of the world's leading comedic actresses and she's on great form here as the eccentric Morgan. In Kunis's more straight-laced Audrey, she's got a perfect foil too.

The supporting cast are on great form too…

From Justin Theroux’s shifty CIA agent Drew to Sam Heughan’s suave British agent Sebastian to Gillian Anderson’s icy cool Wendy, the supporting players all bring their A-game here.

It’s very funny…

Equal parts smart one-liners and slapstick set pieces, you’ll be laughing from beginning to end of this flick.

There are some brilliant action set pieces…

Comedy might be this movie’s main focus, but it doesn’t skimp on the action. There are some high-octane set pieces and a car chase that any action director would be proud of. There are plenty of thrills to go with the laughs.

There's room for more from these two...

We won't spoil the ending, but we will say that things are set up nicely for a second helping.

The Spy Who Dumped Me will be released into UK cinemas on August 22nd and will be available to pre-order from hmv’s online store on the same day.
