"I do think clothes have gone downhill since 1947..." hmv.com talks to Bill Nighy, Gemma Arterton and Gaby Chiappe
Lissa Evans' 2009 novel Their Finest Hour and a Half told the story of advertising copywriter Catrin Cole, who finds herself drafted into the war effort and utilising her writing skills as a scriptwriter for a British government-sponsored propaganda film about the evacuation of troops from Dunkirk. Now the story is coming to the big screen courtesy of acclaimed director Lone Scherfig and screenwriter Gaby Chiappe, with their new film based on Evans' novel arriving in UK cinemas this week.
Their Finest stars Gemma Arterton in the role of Catrin, alongside an impressive cast that includes Bill Nighy, Sam Claflin and Richard E. Grant. With the film set to hit DVD shelves this Monday (August 22nd), we sat down with Gemma, Bill and Gaby to talk about recreating the atmosphere of the 1940s and the oddities of making a film about making a film.
