Starring alongside Fassbender are Charlotte Gainsbourg, Rebecca Ferguson, Toby Jones, J.K. Simmons, Val Kilmer, Jakob Oftebro and Chloë Sevigny.
The story follows Hole as he is brought in to investigate the disappearance of a woman whose pink scarf is found wrapped around an ominous-looking snowman, only to discover that this is tip of an extremely bloody iceberg and he has a serial killer on his hands.
Tomas Alfredson, director of Let The Right One In and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, is in charge, working from a script from Drive writer Hossein Amini and Deepwater Horizon's Matthew Carnahan.
Nesbø has written 11 novels starring Hole, beginning in 1997, but this is the first time the detective has been put on the big screen.
The film stars Gerard Butler, Abbie Cornish, Alexandra Lara, Jim Sturgess, Kathryn Winnick, Amr Waked, Ed Harris and Andy García and has been directed by Dean Devlin, the writer on both Independence Day and Stargate. It is his directorial debut on the big screen.
Geostorm is set in the near future in a world where governments have united to battle the effects of climate change by creating the Dutch Boy Program: a worldwide net of satellites, surrounding the planet, that are armed with geoengineering technologies designed to stave off the natural disasters. After successfully protecting the planet for two years, something is starting to go wrong.
