Warner Bros

A generation of children have grown up struggling with flashbacks from Tim Curry’s take on Stephen King’s terrifying clown Pennywise, and now their offspring will get the chance to have the same scarring experience with this new take on the story.

The film is based on King's 1986 novel, which centred around a group of children who must face off against a force that takes on its victims' greatest fears, horrifically personified by Pennywise the Clown.

The new movie stars Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise with Jaeden Lieberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Finn Wolfhard and Nicholas Hamilton in supporting roles.

The film has been directed by Andrés Muschietti, director of Mama, who stepped in to take over from True Detective creator Cary Fukunaga.

Now recovered from the nasty injury he picked up during the filming of The Maze Runner, Dylan O’Brien leads this much-tipped adaptation of Vince Flynn’s bestselling novel.

O’Brien plays Mitch Rapp, a new recruit to the CIA’s black ops team, who is devastated by the loss of his girlfriend to a terrorist attack.

Now grief-stricken, Rapp is paired with Cold War veteran Stan Hurley to learn how to thwart terrorist operations and hunt the perpetrators.

Together they investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on military and civilian targets and discover a pattern in the violence that leads them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent to stop a mysterious operative, nicknamed "Ghost", intent on starting a world war in the Middle East.

Michael Keaton, Taylor Kitsch, David Suchet and Scott Adkins are in supporting roles, working for director Michael Cuesta.
