Tom Hanks in talks to star as Geppetto in Disney's live-action Pinocchio
Tom Hanks is reportedly the man being eyed by Disney for the role of Gepetto in its upcoming live-action remake of the studio's 1940 animated classic Pinocchio. According to a report from Collider, Hanks is currently in talks with the studio about the film, which is set to be directed by Paul King, the man behind Paddington and its sequel. Depth of Field, the production company run by Rogue One screenwriter Chris Weitz and Andrew Miano, is producing the film for Disney.
Simon Farnaby, who co-wrote Paddington 2 with King, is reported to be working on a new draft of the script, which had originally been written by Harry Potter and the Cursed Child writer Jack Thorne. There's no slated release date for the film as yet, and besides Hanks' reported involvement there have been no confirmed cast announcements either, but the film is due to begin shooting next summer, with a budget reported to be in the region of $150 million.
