Tom Hardy to play Venom in new Spider-Man spin-off
Tom Hardy will star as Venom in a new blockbuster.
Hardy, who is currently filming the fourth series of Peaky Blinders, will take the role of Eddie Brock in the new movie, which is to be directed by Zombieland man Ruben Fleischer.
The movie will be released on October 5th in 2018 with production getting underway in the autumn. The movie, and Hardy's character, will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Venom, one of the most beloved Spider-Man villains, is an alien parasite that needs a human host to survive, who, in return, the alien vests its victim with incredible powers. He has previously been portrayed on screen by Topher Grace in Spider-Man 3, Tobey Maguire's last movie in the role.
Spider-Man: Homecoming, the new reboot of the superhero, arrives this summer.
The movie is Tom Holland's first standalone film in the role after he made his debut in Captain America: Civil War and the first standalone Spider-Man since the character returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Starring alongside Holland are Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Angourie Rice, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr. Cop Car director Jon Watts is in the director's chair.
In this new movie, we find Peter Parker trying to balance his life as an ordinary high school student in Queens, New York City with fighting crime as his superhero alter ego Spider-Man. His biggest challenge comes from Keaton's Vulture, the movie's key villain.
