Tracy Morgan to star alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito in Twins sequel Triplets
Tracy Morgan, the comedian and star of 30 Rock, will star in Triplets, the long-awaited sequel to 1988 comedy Twins.
Twins starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito, with Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman behind the camera.
In the original, we follow Julius and Vincent Benedict, who are both the result of a secret experiment carried out at a genetics laboratory to combine the DNA of six fathers to produce the perfect child.
To the surprise of the scientists, the embryo split and the twins were born. DeVito's Vincent is then raised in an orphanage before escaping for a life of petty crime, while Schwarzenegger's Julius was raised on a South Pacific island by Professor Werner, one of the scientists from the experiment.
Eventually, on Julius' 35th birthday, Werner finally tells him about Vincent. With Werner's blessing, Julius proceeds to Los Angeles to find his brother and hilarity ensues...
A sequel to the comedy, which grossed almost $220 million, has been long in the making, with Eddie Murphy attached for a while, but it is now moving ahead with Morgan.
Reitman is returning to direct and the sequel has a script from Dylan Dawson and Lucas Kavner.
Reitman has outlined the plot, saying: "Secretly, there was a third baby born, a Black baby, who hasn’t been in touch with his siblings. They don’t know each other and very early in the movie they meet and it’s how they achieve a bond together after all these years. It’s really a film about family and, no matter how different we all are, we have to learn to get along. These guys have great chemistry together, and you can see that in the reel, and how much energy they bring out in each other."
