Transformers: Age of Extinction – What You Need To Know
The rebooted series of Transformers live action films have been big hitters at the box office since the first film arrived on cinema screens in 2007. On Monday November 17th the fourth film hits the shelves on Blu-Ray & DVD, but this time around Shia LaBeouf has called it a day and Tranformers: Age of Extinction features a brand new leading man and a refreshed cast. Here's everything you need to know...
Who's in it?
As with the earlier films, Michael Bay is still in the director's chair for the fourth instalment, but it's all change for the rest of the cast, with the newest film starring Mark Wahlberg in the leading role as Cade Yeager, supported by the likes of Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Nicola Peltz, Sophia Myles and Jack Reynor.
What's the plot?
The action is set following the epic battle between the Autobots and Decepticons that left the city of Chicago in a pile of rubble, and the CIA has determined that all of the alien robots are a threat that must be stopped. Cade Yeager, an expert in robotics, discovers an old truck that he suspects to be one of the extraterrestrial robots and, sure enough, it's none other than the Autobot leader Optimus Prime.
The CIA are being assisted in their hunt for the remaining transformers by another of the robots, who is also seeking Optimus, but is this mysterious alien just trying to help, or is there another agenda at work?
The big news for Transformers fans here though is the arrival of the ever-popular Dinobots, particularly their leader Grimlock, who makes his first appearance in the franchise.
Does it deliver?
Four films in, the need for a little refreshment was clear and although the new film wasn't particularly well received by critics, the film has been a hit with hardcore fans of the franchise and it's clearly had enough of an impact that Paramount is now looking at a fifth film in the series, although details of who will star and direct are still at the rumour stages.
Still, it's a big, blockbusting Michael Bay film and while there aren't too many surprises here, if you're a fan of the series this is probably still going to find its way into your collection sooner rather than later.
