Universal looking to produce Charlize Theron-led Fast and Furious spin-off
Universal Pictures are looking to produce a second Fast and Furious spin-off, this time led by Charlize Theron.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the studio are looking to explore the possibility of the spin-off, which would see Theron reprise her role as Cipher, the villain in 2017's eighth instalment of the franchise.
Theron's Cipher is a criminal mastermind and cyberterrorist who coerced Vin Diesel's Dom Torreto into working against his team by holding his former partner and their son hostage.
The series' first spin-off is Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, which stars Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Jason Statham.
The film follows Johnson's Luke Hobbs, the Diplomatic Security Service agent who has been a part of the franchise since 2011's Fast Five, and Statham's Deckard Shaw, the former villain who became a key part of the team in Fast 8.
Idris Elba plays the movie’s' villain, who is named Brixton, an international terrorist and criminal mastermind.
In the action thriller, we find ourselves two years after the events of Fast 8 and watch on as Hobbs and Shaw are forced to team up after Brixton emerges with a plan to cause mass destruction.
Vanessa Kirby and Eddie Marsan also take key roles in the movie, while Deadpool 2 director David Leitch is behind the camera, working from a script from Chris Morgan, writer on six of the Fast and Furious movies.
Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw will be released into UK cinemas on July 26th.
