Vin Diesel buys xXx franchise and announces plan for sequel

Vin Diesel has bought the rights to the xXx franchise and announced plans for a new instalment.

Diesel and his One Race Films have acquired the rights from Revolution Studios and are now in pre-production on a fourth instalment in the franchise.

The Fast and Furious man starred as Cage, a thrill seeking extreme sports nut, stuntman and rebellious athlete who is reluctantly forced to work as a spy for the National Security Agency, back in 2002. His debut outing was a box office success, but he did not return for a sequel, leaving Ice Cube to take over for a second movie titled xXx: State Of The Union.

He returned in 2017 for xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage, in which he comes out of self-imposed exile after being thought to be long dead and is set on a collision course with Donnie Yen's Xiang, who is looking to recover a sinister and seemingly unstoppable weapon known as Pandora’s Box.

Production on the new movie will begin in December, with DJ Caruso, who made xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage, returning to direct.
