Warner Bros delays George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road follow-up Furiosa to 2024

Warner Brothers has delayed Furiosa, George Miller's follow-up to hit action romp, Mad Max: Fury Road, by almost a year.

The film will explore the origins of Furiosa, the character played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road. It had been due in cinemas on June 23rd in 2023, but will now arrive on May 27th in 2024.

George Miller is returning to direct from a script he co-wrote with Nico Lathouris, who he also worked with on Fury Road.

Anya Taylor-Joy, who has starred in Split and will be seen next in Edgar Wright's new horror, Last Night In Soho, will play the title role.

Chris Hemsworth is expected to appear with a long, silver scar on his face as a character named Dementus, while Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will likely be playing Pretorian.

In Fury Road, Furiosa is a one-armed war captain under the tyrannical Immortan Joe but turns against him in order to free the Five Wives, Joe's female concubines. To do this, she teams up with Max Rockatansky as they journey to find a new home.

Production designer Colin Gibson, editor Margaret Sixel, sound mixer Ben Osmo and makeup designer Lesley Vanderwalt, who all won Oscars for their work on Fury Road, will be back for the new movie.
