Warner Brothers orders a prequel to hit drama Training Day
A prequel to Oscar-winning drama Training Day is on the way.
According to Deadline, Warner Brothers has tasked newcomer Nick Yarborough with writing the prequel.
Training Day was released in 2001 and starred Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke, with Antoine Fuqua directing and David Ayer providing the script.
It followed the Hawke's Jake Hoyt, a rookie Los Angeles narcotics officer on his first day on the job. As the 12-hour-period unfolds, he is forced to deal with gangs, shootings and come to terms with the corruption of his new mentor, Washington's Alonzo Harris.
Both Hawke and Washington were Oscar-nominated for the film, with Washington winning Best Actor for his role.
A TV series based on the movie, set 15 years after the original and starring Bill Paxton and Justin Cornwell, was cancelled in 2017 after one season.
