Southpaw tells the story of boxer Hope, a successful fighter who loses everything after a brawl goes wrong. Subsequently, he is banned from the sport and has his daughter taken from him by children's services. He is then forced to fight his way back to the ring and to win his daughter's trust again.
The film is directed by The Equalizer's Antoine Fuqua and has a script from Sons Of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter. Starring alongside Gyllenhaal are Rachel McAdams, Naomie Harris, Forest Whitaker, Victor Ortiz, Rita Ora, Tyrese Gibson and Miguel Gomez.
The film's second trailer is a short one, just over a minute-long, but shows more of Gyllenhaal's Hope in action in the ring and the brutual training regime that he undertook to get in shape to play the boxer.
Southpaw is due for release on July 24th in both the US and the UK.
