What are The Expendables' best moments?
When the first Expendables movie arrived in 2010, it was described by some as a homage to the action films of the eighties, but with the arrival of the third Expendables film this year - and news of a fourth and even a fifth in the pipeline – it feels more like a full-on revival of the genre than a fleeting bout of nostalgia.
Next week (Monday December 8th) The Expendables 3 arrives on DVD & Blu-Ray, and this time around the growing roster of ageing-but-still-ass-kicking action heroes has expanded to include Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson and... er... Kelsey Grammer.
Ok, poor old Kelsey isn't at the muscle end of the cast list, but along with the other newbies he joins some of the familiar Expendables stalwarts such as Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and Terry Crews. There's even a new female addition to the crew in the form of Luna, performed by Ronda Rousey, and she gives as good as she gets. Bruce Willis is one notable absentee, having had a bust-up with Stallone (reportedly over his fee) while the film was in pre-production, although Stallone recently tweeted to the effect that they had settled their differences, so he may well be in the frame for one of the future instalments.
This time around the plot centres on Gibson's character, the villainous Conrad Stonebanks. Thought to have been killed by Barney Ross, Stonebanks is Ross' former friend and, it turns out, co-founder of the Expendables crew, before their relationship went sour and Ross put a pretty final end to their friendship, or so he thought.
Back from the dead, Stonebanks wants revenge and has made it his mission to ensure that the Expendables are destroyed. Obviously, things are going to get blown up...
To celebrate next week's release we trawled through the movies so far and picked out ten of our favourite Expendables moments, one featuring each of our favourite characters. Enjoy...
