Writer of The Matrix relaunch clarifies plan for new movies
The writer of The Matrix relaunch has clarified his plans for the new movie.
Reports emerged last week that the all-conquering sci-fi franchise was set to completely re-done with Zak Penn, who has just finished adapting Ready Player One for Steven Spielberg, writing the new script.
The reports also stated that Creed star Michael B. Jordan is Warner Brothers' pick to star in the movie, but that everything is at an early stage.
Now Penn has taken to Twitter to clarify those reports and has said that there is no plans for a reboot, but there will be more stories set in the same universe. He wrote:
All I can say at this point is no one could or should REBOOT the Matrix. People who know Animatrix and the comics understand.— Zak Penn (@zakpenn) March 15, 2017
Can't comment yet except to say that the words "reboot" and "remake" were from an article. Let's stop responding to inaccurate news.— Zak Penn (@zakpenn) March 17, 2017
Do I want to see more stories set in the universe of the matrix? Yes. Because it's a brilliant idea that generates great stories.— Zak Penn (@zakpenn) March 17, 2017
Look at what people are doing with Xmen universe. Between Logan and Legion and Deadpool, does anyone want them to stop? Not me.— Zak Penn (@zakpenn) March 17, 2017
The Matrix starred Keanu Reeves as Neo, a computer hacker who learns from mysterious rebels about the true nature of his reality and his role in the war against its controllers.
The series also starred Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss and Hugo Weaving and grossed over $1.6 billion at the box office.
