X-Men: Dark Phoenix - Five Reasons You'll Love It

Sophie Turner's Jean Grey is front and centre in the latest instalment of the hugely successful X-Men franchise, which is the follow-up to 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse.

Turner, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Olivia Munn, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Evan Peters all return to star, with Jessica Chastain playing the movie's villain.

Set a decade after the events of X-Men: Apocalypse, things are looking rosy for the X-Men who have become celebrities and public sensations, leading Professor X to encourage the team to do more as superheroes.

Unfortunately, one mission takes them into space, and an unaccounted-for accident greatly empowers Jean Grey, but at the cost of losing control of herself and acting irrationally. All the while, an alien empress seeks to use Jean for her own intentions.

For this movie, Simon Kinberg makes his first appearance as director having served as a writer and producer in the franchise for more than a decade.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is in stores now and we've rounded up five reasons why you'll love it...

It's spectacular...

The post-production process on this film took over a year and you can see why. The effects are incredible, especially when we see Jean Grey in the pomp of her powers. It's jaw-dropping.

Sophie Turner is terrifying...

Though, as with all the X-Men movies, it's a team effort, this is really Turner's film. She's superb. Terrifying and charming in equal measure. Perfect casting for the role.

And when she goes full Phoenix...

Wow. Just wow.

There are some thrilling action set-pieces...

Stunning fight scenes, thrilling chases and a particularly brutal fight scene on board a fast-moving train, it's a thrill ride.

If this is the end, it's a satisfying one...

Unless you've been living in a very secluded cave, you'll know that X-Men are moving in with the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kevin Feige has big plans for the characters, so this is almost certainly the last time we'll see an X-Men movie like this. And, as an end, it's a satisfying one.
