Your Next Box Set: How I Met Your Mother
On the lookout for a new box set to spend your evenings devouring? Each week, hmv.com will be recommending you a series that will swallow up your whole life until your finish the last episode...
This week, as the last series comes to DVD, it’s How I Met Your Mother…
What is it?
The premise of the show is simple. We’re in the year 2030 and the show’s mainstay Ted Mosby is telling his two kids all about how he met their mother, at the beginning of each episode we flash back to his single days in New York and find out all about how he, his best friends Marshall, Lily, Robin and Barney lived it up…
Who’s in it?
Jason Segel, star of The Muppets and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, plays the clumsy, loveable Marshall, with Buffy The Vampire Slayer actress Alyson Hannigan as his wife Lily. Cobie Smulders, who recently assumed the role of Maria Hill in Avengers: Assemble, plays the icy cool Canadian Robin, Neil Patrick Harris, who is currently drawing rave reviews for his turn in Gone Girl, plays the womanising, whipsmart Barney, and Josh Radnor anchors the show as the steady, hopeless romantic Ted.
Over the years there have been numerous high-profile guest stars, including Bryan Cranston, Katy Perry, Enrique Iglesias, Britney Spears, Joe Manganiello and loads more.
Why should I watch it?
The idea of having nine, 22-episode long series to plough through is a bit of a daunting one. But, like all great comedies, the episodes will fly by and sitting down for one episode will soon turn into sitting down for eight or nine.
Like most long-running series, the humour wanes over time, but you stay for the characters.
Describe the show in three words…
Warm-hearted, whimsical and very funny.
The final series of How I Met Your Mother is released onto DVD on Monday (October 13th).
