Your Next Box Set: True Blood
On the lookout for a new boxset to spend your evenings devouring? Each week, hmv.com will be recommending you a series that you will have wishing those cold nights would go for a good while longer. This week, we recommend True Blood in all its gory glory…
What it is?
The series is the story of Sookie Stackhouse, a waitress bored with her life in a tiny Louisiana town, born with the ability to read people’s minds. Suddenly, her life is given a jolt of life when Bill, a vampire, walks into the restaurant. From here on out.
This occurs just as vampires, who have been secretly living amongst humans, are able to come out into the open as ‘Tru Blood’, a synthetic blood produced by Japanese scientists, is now available on the mass market. This gives the series its central conflict, as some vampires want to peacefully co-exist, and others do not…
Who’s in it?
Anna Paquin plays the aforementioned Sookie, with Stephen Moyer playing her love interest (both on screen and in real life) Bill. They are joined by a stellar supporting cast including Sam Trammell, who plays Sookie’s boss, former Home & Away star Ryan Kwanten, who portrays Sookie’s good for nothing brother, and Rutina Wesley, who is Sookie’s fearsome best friend Tara.
Why should I watch it?
If the fact it’s a vampire drama and fantasy is not your thing, then don’t write it off, this isn’t in the same cannon as The Vampire Diaries or Valemont, there are no capes, people don’t sweep out of rooms, no lengthy prologues or impossibly complex back stories. This is a drama, a drama pumped full of passion, intrigue and, above all, humanity.
Describe the show in three words…
Bloody, bold, magnificent.
Season Six of True Blood will be released on Monday (June 2nd) in hmv stores all over the UK.
