In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of metallers Underoath and their mainman Spencer Chamberlain, let's dive in...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"This is a tough one. I grew up around music, my dad bought us/showed us all the good stuff like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones etc and I had an older brother and later two older stepbrothers so I was surrounded by awesome music my entire childhood."

"Trying to figure out which one I bought with my own money was next to impossible but after talking with my older brother for an hour about this we think it was Nirvana In Utero. We were huge Nirvana fans and I’m certain my brother had bought Nevermind a few years before but I think I actually purchased In Utero. The grunge era of music is when we started buying our own music and I remember everything from Soundgarden to Pearl Jam Ten to Alice In Chains Dirt to STP. Who bought what I’m not 100% sure but we had it all, music was everything to us as kids, still is."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"When I heard Led Zeppelin II, I knew I wanted to play the guitar but I think when I saw Kurt Cobain playing and singing at the same time I knew I wanted to do that and write songs. So I'd say Nirvana's Nevermind sealed the deal for me at a very very young age."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Man, this is a tough question, I have so many, but it's probably Nirvana's Nevermind."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"It's a Charlie Brown Christmas 1965 soundtrack by Vince Guaraldi because we listen to it every holiday season and it always makes me smile."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"That changes all the time for me, but I’d probably have to say Coldplay's Parachutes was the one I turned to the most."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Okay, hear me out here, I am a huge Oasis fan, but I think Dig Out Your Soul was very very underrated and overlooked by their fans and to me, I think it’s one of their best releases."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Radiohead's Kid A. They're another band I fell absolutely head over heels for and still love every second of music they put out and that album cover is so iconic to me."

The record with my favourite title is…

"It's Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. It's just great."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"I guess I would have to say, Slayer. Growing up I gave it several chances and I never clicked with any of the songs that I heard, I know that might be blasphemy, but Slayer just never connected with me."

The last record I bought was…

"I still collect vinyl and I think the last record I bought was. Tame Impala's The Slow Rush on vinyl."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2022 is…

"I’m hoping for a new Cage The Elephant record in 2022."

The greatest record of all time is…

"This is the hardest question I’ve had in a while, I could probably name 100 that I feel that way about but for the sake of not driving myself insane thinking about this all day, I’m gonna say Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon."

"That record has been a part of my entire life and I fell in love with it early on and then all over again as an adult. To me, it’s one of those albums that’s so beautiful and experimental that if it came out today peoples minds would still be blown and to me, that’s the definition of timeless."

Underoath's new album, Voyeurist, is released on Friday (January 14th) and you can pre-order it here in hmv's online store.
